Over the past 48 hours, the Russian-speaking segment has discussed two main topics: the growing use of VPN in Russia and new regulatory initiatives in different countries.
A study by RKS Global and Witness Research Centre showed that 36% of Russian users already use VPN. Cheburnet of popular services has made Cheburnet tools part of everyday life. People not only pay for VPN but also help each other: they share configurations, set up access for relatives, and even create 'VPN cooperatives' for joint server rental. Users do not trust official explanations and would only stop using VPN if restrictions are lifted or criminal liability is introduced.
Meanwhile, New Zealand is preparing a bill to ban social media for children under 16. Fines for violators could reach 10% of global revenue. This continues the trend started by Australia, where a similar ban has been in effect since December 2025.
In Russia, requirements for websites are also tightening: mandatory identification of domain owners via ESIA from September 1, 2026, and fines for using foreign analytics tools without user consent.
Technical solutions are also keeping pace: guides have appeared on setting up VPN boxes on Mikrotik with channel redundancy, as well as control panels for Xray and AmneziaWG that simplify administration of personal VPN servers.
These events are important for XConnect users as they show the growing need for reliable and flexible tools to bypass Cheburnet and protect data.
